Ancient and Limited,
1. You can only back up files onto a thumb drive that is a maximum of eight gigabytes. You can not plug a 500gb backup drive into the back of it, empty the contents and be on your way.
2. The software and smartphone apps for remote viewing and playback are buggy and unreliable, to place it mildly. They crash constantly, and there is no way to quick forward or rewind the recordings. If you want to search a 45-minute clip on your phone or computer, it will take you 45 minutes because you can only play it back at normal speed. I believe the Swannview Link iOS app was just updated for the first time in two or three years.
3. Remotely downloading multiple clips, after checking the “covert to AVI” box, will only convert the first of those clips to AVI format. They rest will be files that end in “.H264,” which do not open with any media player, including VLC. Have fun converting those to something you can view. So you have to sit there and download clips one at a time. You can’t “set it and forget it,” as Ron Popeil says.
It says on Amazon that this model was first released in December 2014, but I reckon that might be a typing error. It seems like a device from the late 80s or mid 90s.
