I do a LOT of I.T. work, and can’t even start to express how frustrated I am with this Company. The product itself really has FANTASTIC potential, but it seems like it may have been rushed to market. The user interface on the NVR is really clunky and not intuitive, the remote viewing apps (Swannview Link) for PC, Android and ios seem like they would be really nice…if they would work well. The only thing that seems to work decently is when you use a monitor and connect directly to the NVR. Other than that, it is intermittent, times out, rarely displays more than one camera view at a time, and more. But the WORST thing is there technical support. Excellent luck if you need help, and even more luck if you have something that they need to declare faulty and replace. We had a camera fail within 3 days. I spent 40 minutes on the phone working my way down to 1st in queue, only to then get my basic info taken and place in the tech support queue (24th in queue!). I waited another 50 minutes to get a level 1 tech. We walked through all of the basic troubleshooting (swap the camera, swap the port, swap the cable) and she too agreed the camera was terrible. After putting me on hold (when she was obviously told to dig deeper), we spent more time retesting the same things. When the problem follows the device, when the other parts (ports, cables) work on the other cameras, it is pretty obvious that a camera has failed. Again she chose the camera was terrible and indicated that we would have to setup a swap. Again, on hold for 5 more minutes. She then chose AGAIN that she wanted to test some more. At this point, I got frustrated and questioned to speak to a supervisor (in a professional manner), was place on hold, and disconnected. Over 2 hours on the phone.

Sooooooo, let’s try the on-line chat help. Here we go, 12th in queue and 15 minute estimate. That really was pretty accurate until I got down to “Next in queue” and “less than one minute” estimate. 10 minutes later, I was “Disconnected” due to “Technician Console has finished the session”.

I work with countless tech companies supporting many systems and this is by far the worst support experience I have had in some time. Bottom line, IF you get lucky and IF you just want to use the NVR locally, this system may work very well for you. Otherwise, be very careful about choosing Swann.

Save your money. I had a malfunctioning camera out …, December 15, 2014

Save your money. I had a malfunctioning camera out of the box at which point I contacted Swann for warranty replacement. After jumping through all of their hoops, including rerunning the cable through the walls they still would not replace the unit with a new camera. I have to ship the camera to them at my expense and once received they will ship me a refurbished unit.

2nd day of testing the unit before installation and suddenly the power supply failed. It kept turning on/off so I had to go exchange it. The support was okay, I spent about 45 minutes. The Mac support is essentially 0 so if you only have macs, the software doesn’t work as well as the windows apps. When it was working, the video quality was really pretty excellent
