Fantastic…so far,
So far, im only at the testing stage before i go into my attic to do the actual install. I connected all the cameras in my living room, verified operation, then tried to get the remote viewing to work. After spending hours….HOURS….watching youtube videos and reading up on port forwarding, i tried my best but could not figure it out. I called customer service(cs), spent 40mins on the phone, allowed cs to remotely tap into my laptop (creepy!), watched the scroll arrow go around on its own as cs was setting it up for me at their end and whollah, remote viewing on my wifi ipad2 and iphone 4 using 3g.
I also used this product below to wirelessly tap into my router, so i can position the dvr anywhere as long there is an outlet or an extension cord.

Next project, find camera locations and route cables, and then i will update on picture quality and operation.
05/11- installation complete. Probably spent 3hrs per camera to install, but i blame that on doing it by myself and the difficulty of routing the cables through my attic. No fault of swanns. Video quality is grainy at best. You’ll never read a license plate, but you will be able to describe vehicles or suspects with 90% accuracy. Noticed the price for this system is now $400. Sorry, but i paid $249 on those daily deals. Worth 249 but not 400!

Followup – I was trying to get the dvr to show on my Samsung G4 using a app I already had installed – called IP Cam Viewer. I finally was able to get it to show using the model swann DVR8-3000 for my camera choice (just fyi).

|Fantastic with indoor cameras,
1. the power,
2. Show,
3. Internet connection
and of course, the manpower to install the (4) cameras and run the cables.
1. the power – if you are serious about using this for security / investigation you should have it on a UPS that will run it for a while.
2. The show I attached is a flat-screen VGA monitor that I have been keeping around. The USB mouse is included.
3. the internet connection seems daunting at first, but it can be accomplished without driving you crazy.
4. The cameras are small and light, but they are obviously cameras, but that can be to your advantage. You will need to place them as close as possible to your subject so you can make a excellent identification – otherwise, why bother? Is you don’t need to use all four cameras you can use the cables to extend the length of the run. You will need a pretty small screwdriver to adjust the camera mounts. The power supply for the cameras uses only one outlet and splits the connection to power all the cameras at once. so, you need one outlet for the DVR / Controller, one for the camera power and one for your show.
The viewing / recording software is straightforward and simple to use and the camera system automatically switches to infrared as required.
This system does not replace an alarm system.
